NOTE: Each year, thoughtful feedback from participating band directors assists festival planners in making improvements to the festival. For 2008, it became an IAJE–approved (International Association for Jazz Education), non-competitive scholastic festival. Therefore, only the IAJE adjudication ratings of I, II, and III are posted for public viewing, and not their raw numerical scores. Every band is a winner, and thanks to the STJS Foundation, Sac. State Jazz Studies, and sponsor Laura Lee Humes, individual band students qualified for over $5,000 (an increase from last year) in merit awards and scholarships. Festival judges selected outstanding and interesting bands for encore performances at the evening Showcase and Awards Concert featuring the Clinicians Band with Eddie Erickson. In addition, STJS invited two bands to perform on the Dante Club Main Stage during the next-day “Jazz Sunday” concert. In 2008, we had all the fun without the stress of competition.
